Address: 2188 Marietta Ave. Spring Hill, FL 34608
Birth Day: Josh (December 27)
Josh’s path to serving on the mission field in South Africa, isn’t typical. As a kid, Josh was constantly surrounded by tales of service and adventure on the African mission field. His grandparents, Norman and Gertrude Bonner, were missionaries to Port Shepstone and Brakpan, South Africa. His father, Stan, was a missionary kid, whose favorite stories revolved around his childhood in 1950’s, Africa. Those stories acted as seeds for a dream that would be harvested years later.
Josh grew up in Brooksville, FL and has been a part of the Wesleyan church his entire life. He graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2002, with a degree in Criminal Justice. However, he quickly learned his calling was teaching. In 2008, Josh went on a month-long missions trip to Mozambique and South Africa. He came in contact with the Helms during this time and worked on a project that helped the Bible college in Xai Xai, Mozambique.
Josh began full-time teaching in 2006 and was a Physical Education teacher for 9 years at the elementary level. His greatest joy is teaching young people, and bringing others closer to Jesus Christ. In 2015, his story was being reshaped by the Lord. After experiencing the pain of divorce, and a year of seeking the Lord, Josh accepted a calling into ministry in February of 2015. A month later, he saw the financial burden of Jason Helm’s battle with Cancer on social media. As part of unconventional path to ministry, Josh accepted God’s call to do a cross-country walk to raise money for the Helm family. That walk opened the door for many new relationships, and a visit to see the Helms in Tarkastad, SA. It was on that visit, that the Lord opened the door to teach as a PE coach at Orange Grove Academy in Tarkastad.
Josh’s favorite hobbies include hiking, reading, motorcycling, tennis, and card games. As part of his love for teaching, Josh created a video blog website to encourage others in their daily lives. (visit www.thesoulgrow.com) The focus of his ministry will be on the teaching and mentorship of young people at Orange Grove Academy, as well as volunteer service at Gateway church in Tarkastad. His spiritual gifts are encouragement, leadership and connecting people together. Thank you for your support and prayer for Josh’s ministry!
